Shortage in global pulses production lead to price rise, says govt
NEW DELHI: The price of pulses shooting northwards is more due to shortage in global pulses production last year, said the Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan.According to the Times of India report, the prices have reason globally across the major producing countries due to the gap between availability and demand .
The agriculture ministry officials have maintained that the pulses prices in the country have not risen due to delay in importing the commodity and making up the demand shortfall. The government estimates an increase in domestic production next year to 18.32 million tonnes from 17.38 million tonnes during 2014-15. The annual consumption of pulses is estimated at around 22 million tonnes.
