Sensex ends at three-month high, Nifty above 8,600; Bank Nifty adds over 350 points on Cabinet move
The broader 50-share Nifty closed above 8600 for the first time since April 20. It closed up 84.25 points at 8,608.05.
The 30-share BSE Sensex ended the day up 247.83 points, or 0.88 per cent, at 28,446.12. This was the highest close for the benchmark since April 17.
23 of the 30 Sensex stocks ended the day in the green.
The rally was led by gains in banking stocks. Bank Nifty was up nearly 2 per cent, or 360 points, above the 19,100-mark. Axis Bank surged nearly 5 per cent, Yes Bank rallied nearly 4 per cent in intraday trade as the Cabinet approved composite foreign investment caps. FDI, FII would be merged in composite foreign investment cap, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Market breadth was positive, with five out of every 10 BSE stocks trading in the green.
ANG Industries shot up over 9 per cent in intraday trade as marquee HNI Vikram Kotak of Crest Capital buys stake.
Pipavav Defence was in limelight. The scrip soared over 8 per cent in intraday trade after the company said that itr has bagged a $3-billion warship project from Russia. Oil prices rose on Thursday, but the U.S. and Brent prices are down more than 17 and 15 percent respe ..
Major Asian markets ended the day in the green amid highly volatile trade. China’s Shanghai Composite closed the session up 0.46 per cent, or 17.47 points at 3,823.18. Japan’s Nikkei setteled 0.67 per cent up, or 136.79 points at 20,600.12. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng finished the day 0.43 per cent up, or 107.02 points at 25,162.78.
The Eurozone is said to agree in principle 7 billion euro Greece bridge loan, as quoted by sources. Earlier the Greek parliament voted in favour of the bailout plan.
