The BSE benchmark Sensex today recovered by nearly 106 points in early trade as stocks led by IT and consumer durable sectors rallied on fresh buying by funds and retailers amid a firming trend in the Asian region.
The 30-share barometer rose by 105.64 points, or 0.54 per cent, to 19,347.64.Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 24.20 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 5,871.90.
Brokers said fresh round of buying by major players driven by a firming trend on the other Asian bourses buoyed the trading sentiment here. Besides, covering-up of short positions in view of approaching monthly expiry on Thursday also supported the upside, they said.
Meanwhile in Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.20 per cent and Shanghai was 0.43 per cent higher, while Japan’s Tokyo Stock market remained closed today for a public holiday.
