In the stock market, the Sensex closed the day at 18,791.93, up 181.16 points.

Weighed down by losses in the index heavyweights, including Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Tata Power, Sun Pharma,Bharti Airtel, HDFC, NTPC, Tata Steel, Coal India, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, the domestic bourses opened in red down over 40 points. However, gains in the midcap and smallcap indices capped the losses to some extent. On the sectoral front, oil&gas and Tech indices were leading the decline while consumer durables and realty stocks leading the gain.

At 9:34 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex witnessed selling across Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, Jindal Steel & Power, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Power Company, was trading 25.28 points or by 0.13 per cent lower at 18,766.65.

In a similar fashion, NSE, Nifty was trading at 5,703.3 down by 15.4 points or by 0.27 per cent. The broader market continued to outperform benchmark indices. The BSE MIDCAP was at 6,728.59 up by 21.77 points or by 0.32 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 7,213.06 up by 19.17 points or by 0.27 per cent.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 1424, shares advanced were 803 while 565 shares declined and 56 were unchanged.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 263.40, 0.88%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 571.25, 0.76%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 414.40, 0.72%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 831.10, 0.65%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 106.30, 0.61%), among others.

Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, oil&gas index was leading the loss and was trading lower at 8,481.44 down by 21.23 points or by 0.25 per cent. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 807.10, 0.47%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 256.80, 0.37%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 367.15, 0.35%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 278.40, 0.18%).

Following the oil&gas index, TECk index was at 3,320.12 down by 4.97 points or by 0.15 per cent. DB Corp Ltd. (Rs. 218.40, 1.78%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 593.00, 1.30%), Hughes Ispat Ltd. (Rs. 11.52, 1.03%), Eros International Media Ltd. (Rs. 168.10, 0.97%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 263.40, 0.88%).
