Sensex rallies nearly 100 points; Nifty tests 8,550; Essar Oil up 6%, Gati 6%
NEW DELHI: Putting the Greece worries behind, the S&P BSE Sensex continued the upward movement for the third straight session and gained as much as 124 points in intraday trade on Tuesday.
The 50-share Nifty index also broke past its crucial psychological level of 8550, supported by gains in FMCG, consumer durable, power, banks and capital goods stocks.
Sterlite Tech jumped about 6 per cent and L&T Finance was up over 9% in intraday trade.
Rupee continued its winning streak and gained 9 paise to hit day’s high of 63.30.
In Asian markets, China’s Shanghai Composite index fell 5% after Premier Li Keqiang was quoted saying that China has the ability to deal with economic risks but did not specifically mention the country’s embattled stock market. Japan’s Nikkei recovered yesterday’s losses and gained about 300 points and was trading above 20,300 levels.
