Sensex recover 28,000, Nifty above 8400, Jain irrigation surges over 8%, ABG Shipyard 5%
NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 200 points to reclaim its psychological mark of 28,000 in trade today, tacking positive cues from Asian markets.The 50-share Nifty index advanced and managed to hit 8,400 mark.
Most Asian markets were quoting in the green. Kospi gained 1.20 per cent; Heng Seng was up 1 per cent, while Nikkei added 0.31 per. Shanghai Composite was down 0.40 per cent.
Greece became the first advanced economy to ever be in arrears to the IMF. Gerry Rice, Director of Communications at IMF said, “I confirm that the SDR 1.2 billion repayment (about EUR 1.5 billion) due by Greece to the IMF today has not been received. We have informed our Executive Board that Greece is now in arrears and can only receive IMF financing once the arrears are cleared.”
Led by considerable spending by the government in infrastructure sector, core sector growth recovered to a six-month high in May. Data show, the Core sector index rose 4.4 per cent in May, its fastest since November 2014.
The index had reported a growth of 3.9 per cent in the corresponding quarter of last year.
McNally BharatBSE 19.97 % surged 18%, ABG ShipyardBSE 3.00 % gained 5% and Tata ChemicalsBSE 4.43 % was up 4% in intraday trade. Jain IrrigationBSE 5.90 % surged over 8 per cent in intraday trade.
