Sensex up over 150 points; Nifty reclaims 8,500; Sun TV cracks 3%, Tata Coffee up 9%
NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 100 points in trade on Tuesday shrugging off muted trends observed across major Asian markets.The 50-share Nifty index surged past its crucial psychological level of 8500. CNX IT index surged over 200 points in intraday trade.The gains on the benchmark indices were led by index heavyweights such as Infosys, TCS, SBI, Larsen & Toubro and M&M.The overall market breadth was positive, with every seven out of 10 BSE stocks trading with a positive bias.
The S&P BSE MidCap index rose 0.7 per cent, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index gained 0.98 per cent.Rupee trading is closed today on account of Parsi New Year.Major Asian markets were quoting mixed. China’s Shanghai Composite was down over a per cent. Japan’s Nikkei lost over 0.2 per cent, while KOSPI shed over 0.4 per cent. Bucking the weak trend, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Singapore Straits Times were up over 1 per cent.
