Sensex up over 200 pts, Nifty reclaims 8,550; Nestle jumps 9%, Bharti Airtel up 3%

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 200 points in trade on Wednesday supported by positive cues from Asian markets.The 50-share Nifty index reclaimed its crucial level of 8550 ans was nearing the next psychological level of 8,600.The gains on the indices were led by Infosys, HDFC, ITC, Bharti Airtel and TCS.The overall market breadth was positive, with seven out of every 10 stocks were trading in the green.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 1.04 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index edged higher by 1.06 per cent.
Nestle India gained over 10% in intraday trade. The FSSAI-approved laboratory of Central Food Technological Research Institutue (CFTRI) has found Maggi noodles to be in compliance with the country’s food safety standards.
Most Asian markets were trading with a positive bias. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.80 per cent tracking depreciation in yen against dollar. Japan is a major exporter to the US and a weak yen helps Japanese exporters remain competitive. South Korea’s Kospi and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.20 per cent each. Straits Times was quoting nearly flat.

Snapping a two-day winning streak, rupee depreciated 16 paise to 63.90 against dollar. Yesterday, the local unit had jumped 30 paise against the greenback to settle the day at a two-week high of 63.74.
